HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It’s been long since I updated the blog on the progress of this InCode project. I’ve been trying to find a believable excuse for it with limited success so I won’t even try to give an excuse. On with the update…
We finally got to start working with J2ME. I like the fact that after the first two sessions, students were able to build reasonably advanced applications, some using concepts that hadn’t been taught yet. And this is something that gives us great satisfaction to observe because it means that the students are embracing the key doctrine we are trying to instill: self-learning.
We have been encouraging the students to write code as a way for them to learn by giving exercises requiring them to build small applications.
We were privileged to host the founder of Verviant Consulting Services and and CEO of PesaPal Mr. Agosta Liko(pictured).
Mr. Liko came in to give a talk to the students about the realities of the techworld and where the business aspect comes in. He is wonderfully placed to give such a talk given his involvement with start-ups, and successful ones at that. A big ‘Thank you’ goes to Mr. Liko for making time, Nanjala for organizing it and to Herman for holding fort on the day.
Very soon (most probably this month) we’re going to be holding the Mobile Application Development Competition. I hope the students are ready to produce high quality and useful applications. The competition needs to be held early due to the impending school examinations.
Finally, I hope 2011 will treat you kindly.
